Sophia is a social humanoid robot developed by Hong Kong-based company Hanson Robotics. Sophia was activated on April 19, 2015 and made her first public appearance at South by Southwest Festival (SXSW) in mid-March 2016 in Austin, Texas, United States. She is able to display more than 50 facial expressions.

Kenneth Y. Goldberg (born 1961) is an American artist, writer, inventor, and researcher in the field of robotics and automation. He is the craigslist Distinguished Professor of New Media and Professor of Industrial Engineering and Operations Research (IEOR), with joint appointments in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS), Art Practice, and the School of Information at the University of California, Berkeley. Goldberg also holds an appointment in the Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of California, San Francisco.
